T

o put it frankly, Aaron Donald is an absolute beast! The back to back defensive player of the year has an expansive repertoire of pass rush moves, but the one he is most famous for is the jump chop. Today I will be breaking down the correct way to do this innovative move.

Below is the clip I will be breaking down

First step

Everything happens faster inside. All you need is one step to threaten the blocker and get him to shoot his hands.

Chop

Always make sure to chop the blocker's wrist. It's the weakest point on a blockers arm and will give you control of their arm.

Jump off the first step

Once you've chopped now jump laterally off your first step. The jump makes you a hard to punch moving target for the blocker.

Grab and flip

Now grab the back of the blocker's shoulder pads. This will help flip your hips to the QB and prevent the blocker from recovering.

Tight swim

Quickly swim to complete the rush. Keep the swim as close to the blocker as possible so he doesn't have space to recover.

One more note

The jump chop can be done at defensive end as well. The only difference is the end jumps on the 3rd step rather than the 1st step.

That’s it for this week. Craig over and out!
